Dear Lilly Ann, Mark, Jennifer, and Erika,
I am so sad to hear about your loss. It is a sad day for all of us who loved him, but this Thanksgiving I gave thanks for having Coach in my life since my child hood days at Jones Beach Field 9.
He was a great guy and a respected gentleman from our teacher, lifeguard, and wrestling community; and a great teacher of lessons beyond the wrestling room walls who inspired other men to want to be better.
He had that real man work ethic, "get tough, get strong" but he also had a real caring attitude. He was dedicated to his family, wrestlers, lifeguards, friends, community, and country. We will all miss him but we will carry him in our hearts forever. A little bit of George lives on in all who met and learned from him.
I will be by with my Mom when I get home.
Respectfully and sincerely,
Steven Hunte

Our relationship began in 1970 when we were both coaching wrestling at the junior high level. Over the next 45 years our paths have crossed many times. George always presented himself as a professional and a role model for young wrestlers. I will look back with fond memories of competing against George. The wrestling community will certainly miss the likes of George Munnich.
Condolences to the family.

Dear Lil,
May I share with you and if you would like with those at the funeral for George, my words of deepest condolences, as I just heard from Steve Agostinacchio, that George has gone home to his God. May he rest in peace.
I wish so much, I could be with you and your family to offer to you the comfort of our faith in Jesus Christ and the belief in the eternal life which is our only comfort at this sad time.
As I used to love to hear the stories of George's travels and service around the globe, as he would talk about how he would "ship out" for months at a time. As a military chaplain, I am now on deployment and being "shipped out" to the middle east. We just celebrated the 240th birthday of our Navy and had a big celebration together with the American Navy Captain and Highest ranking commander and embassy naval attaché of this middle east county --referred to as "The Skipper".
This reminded me of a name for George, as my "Skipper", as my rowing partners, be it from the surf of Jones Beach or from the Baldwin Bay Colony Beach to Short Beach or from the docks of Kings Point to the shores of Rye Beach.
What a perfect term for George Munnich, he was our Skipper, who by his example of love and service, as a husband, father, teacher, coach, Lieutenant and Christian gentleman's has navigated the ways for us even in this time of a troubled storm at sea to arrive to his final home port to heaven to be with Christ his true "Skipper" and good Shepard of us all.
**********************
Please share that a special prayer and memorial service will be offer here at our military chapel tent in the middle east on the same day that his funeral will be in Bellmore/Wantagh, LI, NY.
