My grandma was not just an amazing person, but an inspiring one. She's taught me so much in 18 years of living with her everyday. Here, I will try to sum all she's taught me into 3 life changing lessons.
Firstly she's taught me if you scream really, REALLY loud, no matter what the circumstance, eventually you will get what you want. Me and my brother, Michael would always joke around and call my grandma "immortal" because she was often in and out of the hospital and suffered many illnesses but continued to fight her way to the end. And though it's funny to think of her as "immortal" or of her screaming at 2 am because she's bored and wants attention, it's honestly taught me an important lesson. It's made me realize how important it is to never give up and to be persistent when wanting something. As I move into my adulthood and as I seek a career and purpose in life, I feel that this is an important skill for me to remember. Keep pushing forward, being strong and and don't let ANYONE step on you or tell you what to do or how to live your life! Even if you have to figuratively (or maybe literally) scream and stomp your feet, you should always push to have the life YOU choose and be the person YOU want to be. Don't let anything or anyone stop you!
Secondly, my grandma has taught me unconditional love and caring. She always put her family first, especially her grandkids. She was constantly spoiling us, going to dance recitals and baseball games, and buying us fast food almost daily, It didn't matter what it was; As long as she could see us grandkids happy. Our happiness was hers which is the most selfless thing I've ever experienced. I find myself mirroring her example when I care for my brother, Luke. I would cross oceans for this kid! And when he's happy, even my worst day is instantly better. Just his existence puts a smile on my face. I even gave him 3$ yesterday just to spend time with me, rather than with "myself" for once! But that's how badly I love being with him and spending time with him! I have a love that's unconditional for my little brother and I love spending time and caring for all children, just like my grandma!
Lastly she's taught me the true meaning of what it is to be a rose. A rose has many sharp thorns, but as it nears the top, it blooms in beautiful soft color and radiant scent. Rose Merlo may have experienced many thorns in her life; She experienced many hardships and struggles throughout her childhood and earlier years. But in the end, those hardships ended up creating and morphing her into the beautiful person that she was. A vibrant rose that was full of life. Roses are often given as gifts. And that's was Rose was, a gift. She touched all those in her life with her softness and colorful personality. A true Rose she was, indeed.
As Lydia Rose, I can only hope and pray that as she watches over me, I can too embody the true meaning of a rose. To take my hardships and use them to help me grow from a bud to a open pedaled flower. To ultimately become a better more beautiful person, just like Rose was and forever will be.
Rest in peace grandma. I hope you're walking, running, jumping and even flying in heaven. I love you

Mom.
We lived together for so long. I can feel the loneliness of life without you already. We had many wonderful family times with you, all of us. You and I had some tough times too. But I hope wherever you are that you know I considered it a privilege to take care of you, have you here with me, and be there when you made your transition to a better place.
The opportunity to help is a gift from God.
I will miss you terribly. Please haunt me if you can, I look forward to it.
Love you forever, Michele

Dear Michelle and Vinnie,
I am writing to give my condolences during this time of grief for you. I have many memories of your mom, and her adventuresome life. I remember when she danced with your dad to uncle Tony's guitar playing while at uncle Duly's house; I also remember when you guys were born, and the joy you brought to them. You were just little people then, but you were a part of uncle Gussie's and your mom's life bringing them a new adventure in their lives. Now, unfortunately, you are orphans like we are. A mom's passing is very sad, and has great emotional impact on all of us. Thus, I am hoping you will embrace and keep all the good memories of her in your heart for the rest of your journey. May she rest in peace.

Rose was a very kind and loving person.
I told her that if I ever had a daughter I would name her Rose and that is a promise I mean to keep.
Whether it was playing poker after dinner or hanging out with her grandchildren, she could always be counted on to provide a smile and a friendly gesture.
She raised an amazing daughter and I'm sure she has left a lasting impression on her grandchildren.
You will be remembered by many and as long as you are remembered you will never really be gone.
Rest in peace Granny. You will be missed.
Love you!

We all have such wonderful memories of you, Aunt Rose. Looking back upon the years, you were always there with our family, sharing holidays and special events. Your heart was made of gold --family always came first! At this time I would like to thank you for all the wonderful memories you left us with, your grace and presence in everyone's life, your laughter and kindness to the entire family. It will be difficult to not see you at family gatherings, but one thing for sure, Aunt Rose, we will always feel that you are with us --watching over us, and blessing us. You always told me, "Dawn, I will never forget you". Aunt Rose, I will never forget you either. As you enter the gates of heaven, I wish you peace and I hope you find the love of your brothers and sisters, parents, and Uncle Gus. May your light shine for all eternity. May God bless you always!
Love and miss you,
Your niece, Dawn
