We have moved away from the Bellmore area to upstate My. Was thinking about Father Tim today Easter Sunday. Looked up and was deeply saddened to read about him. He would send us yearly updates.
He was also our son's religious instructor and also the priest who married our son and daughter in- law. We were invited when he was ordained , unfortunately we couldn't make that and so wish we did.
Our deepest condolences are sent your way from the Spitaleri's , Dorothy, Carl, Marc, Jesse, David and Blaise

In Loving memory of Father Timothy Hirten:
On 17th September 1983 on a Saturday, there was a conference with bishops, priests, nuns and religions at the Nassau County Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.
I went there to find the bishop so that I could give him the message that I received from God. My hope was that the Bishop could then give this message to Pope John Paul the 2nd in Rome Italy.
When I was walking toward the Coliseum, I encountered two women eating next to a car. I asked them: excuse me, “what is going on inside the Coliseum? Do I need a ticket to get inside” ? Yes you do, the women answered. I replied, “Oh, I don’t have a ticket”. Behind another car, a tall young man appeared out of nowhere and said to me, no, you do not need a ticket now to get in. I asked him, “Is the bishop here”?
No the bishop just left he replied. I asked, “Do you think I can find someone in there who can make an appointment for me to meet with the Holy Father in Rome Italy” ? He said, I can make an appointment with the Holy Father for you. I happen to be a seminarian in the Irish college in Rome studying to be a priest. My name is Timothy Hirten. I am home here in Long Island for a short time but when I return to Rome, I’ll make an appointment with the Holy Father for you. I showed him the message I received from the Lord that I had transcribed in writing and said to Tim, don’t rush too fast for I need to find an artist to print my vision of Christ on a canvas and I need to renew my passport before I can travel to Rome.
Three months later without an appointment, I was in Rome Italy. Once there, Timothy, already in Rome, found a place for me to stay for the nine days that I spent in Rome. He checked on me every day and invited me for mass to the Irish college that he was a part of.
When priests and bishops failed to help me in my journey to reach the Holy Father, Timothy was the only Angel God presented to me. He was with me when I delivered the message to now St. John Paul the 2nd. Father Timothy went out of his way to help me while the clergy closed an eye and an ear to my plea. Like an Angel who appeared to me that day at the Coliseum, Tim was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. How can he ever be forgotten?
At the hour of his death, the Blessed mother to whom he was so dedicated to, took Timothy in her arms and carried him before the Throne of God when he heard our Lord saying:
“Well done my good and faithful servant”.
To my dearest Angel friend, Father Timothy Hirten, never to be forgotten, you have given me a lifetime of the most genuine friendship anyone could ever have. Thank you for all that you have done. Your life is an example of a true Christian.
With loving memories, the handmaid of the Lord.
Your eternally grateful friend,
Maria Telese (Glen Cove,NY)

Dear Hirten family,
My heart is broken to hear of the loss of Fr. Tim. I didn't know him well, but remember him as a fun big brother to Nancy. (I attended St. Barnabas with Nancy). I remember your family as wonderful dancers at all things Irish in Bellmore and all around Long Island. Please be assured of a place on my heart and in my humble prayers. Much love, Terry McNulty (aka Theresa Rappa)

Our family and friends from our days at JB-MDL, New Jersey are still heartbroken from the news of Father Tim’s passing. He meant so much to many of us parishioners and the local community as a whole. We have many fond memories of him particularly his love for his mother who occasionally attend Mass and his basketball war stories in the Philippines. He clearly and positively impacted and supported many of us over the years. I’m deeply saddened none of us could have been there for him in his time of need. Rest In Peace our dear friend. God bless all those that mourn.

Growing up in Bellmore we all knew the Hirten family, a well respected and devote family to community and to the church. I had the absolute pleasure of competing against the Hirten family in summer league basketball and every Monday night at Grand Avenue Jr High School and later at Kennedy High School. There was never a shortage of trash talk between the Terrys but never from Tim who was the best player in the gym. He worked harder than anyone there, never complained, always competed and always got fouled real hard by someone of lesser talent (everyone there). He was someone that as I reflect today, I wish I was more like, someone that had a gentle toughness about him that no one could break.
I hadn't seen Tim in 20 years so when I saw him a few years back at my friend's Dad funeral mass, he recognized me immediately and moved me with his kindness and reflection of years past. Rarely in my life have I felt the level of happiness Tim displayed in seeing me after all these years.....Lots of laughs and reflection.
When I heard the news of his passing I was overwhelmed with grief and wondered what had happened. When learning what happened, I thought about just how much pain Tim must have been in and I prayed for his family and those in our lifetime that have experienced this devastating condition. I will continue to pray for all the Hirtens during this time of loss and will always put Tim Hirten in a class by himself - a true gentleman. Terry Campbell

Fr. Tim was ALWAYS a welcoming spirit, each time we visited Our Lady of Skies chapel at Sheppard AFB. Our home church in Wichita Falls, is Our Lady Queen of Peace, where we regularly celebrate Vigil Sunday mass, each Saturday evening. Thanks to the Ladies of St. Mary's in Windthorst, TX who conducted a Stations of the Cross pilgrimage during Lent to six other churches in the area, Sundays have become our day of pilgrimage, in which we travel to other churches in the region for mass.
However, we soon found that over the succeeding year, our path always seemed lead us back to Our Lady of Skies and Fr. Tim, at least once a month and sometimes more. The fellowship with the parishioners was heartfelt and Fr. Tim's homilies and personal conversations were most inspirational, to say the least.
We are truly blessed to have known such a fine servant of the Lord, as Fr. Tim was and still remains today. We may be feeling the loss of a dear friend, but the heavenly host are most certainly celebrating the arrival of one of their own. Fr. Tim, rest in peace, thanks be the God....
